Owners Matt Schlabach and Meredith Borders first purchased the property at 3418 Topping St. along with the Victorian-style mansion the adjoining brewery. This Houston area brewery has served as a wedding and special events venue until they fully opened as a brew pub in 2016.
City Acre looks like a garden of amazing ingredients for their craft beer. There are over 50 varieties of fruit, vegetable plants and trees growing on the property. Their small batch Houston beer are with certainty made with the fruits grown in the planter you probably walked by on the way in…which makes City Acre Brewing Company as much of a working garden as it is a Houston area brewery.
The garden doesn’t just contribute to the flavor in the brew but is also the source of many ingredients on their food menu. City Acre uses their own spent grain as fertilizer and grow as much of the herbs and produce as they can. Many of the menu items are sourced in part from seasonal ingredients grown in City Acre’s on-site garden sourcing the rest from local farms when available.
Visiting City Acre will feel like a day trip from Houston. Oddly placed brewery with their parking half a block away but well worth it! Their combination of tasty Houston beer and chef driven food will make a Sunday funday unique.
